The Su-30 is a two-seat, twin-engine heavy multirole fighter developed by Sukhoi from the Su-27UB two-seat trainer. It first flew in 1989 and its NATO reporting name is "Flanker". The second crew member operates the weapons systems, giving it long-range air-superiority as well as ground- and sea-attack capability. Its main variants include the Su-30MKK of the Chinese Air Force, the Su-30MK2 of the Chinese Navy, India's Su-30MKI and Russia's Su-30SM; the Su-30MKI and Su-30SM have thrust-vectoring engines and are highly manoeuvrable.
