Lockheed U-2S Dragon Lady

Special-purpose · USA
The U-2 Dragon Lady is a single-engine, high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft developed by Lockheed's Skunk Works in the 1950s. It can fly for long periods above about 70,000 feet (21,000 m), carrying out imagery reconnaissance, signals intelligence and surveillance missions. Its very long, high-aspect-ratio wings make it notoriously difficult to fly, and landings are guided by a chase car on the runway. The current U-2S, with upgraded engine and sensors, remains in US Air Force service, making it one of the longest-serving military reconnaissance aircraft.
