The CH-47 Chinook is a twin-engine, tandem-rotor heavy-lift helicopter developed by Boeing. It entered service in 1962 and has been continuously upgraded through many variants. With no tail rotor, its two large rotors give it outstanding lifting power: it can carry troops and vehicles inside its cabin or sling heavy loads such as artillery underneath. Thanks to its heavy-lift capability and performance at high altitude, the Chinook is flown by the US Army, the Royal Air Force and many other militaries, and is one of the best-known heavy helicopters in the world.
